KUR-WORLD DRAFT EIS "HAVE YOUR SAY" - CE1-M
Name of project - KUR-World Integrated Eco Resort
Submission form: draft environmental impact statement (EIS)
[CE1-M]
Terms of Reference: Section - 9.4 EIS Process
DESCRIBE THE ISSUE
*
Major equity issues regarding access to the EIS Draft document and the ability to ‘have your say’. Re: Copies of the KUR-World EIS document. Only one hard copy is available at Kuranda library at a venue that is open 9-5pm M-F and 9-11.30am on Saturday only. This mostly excludes people who work in Cairns or Mareeba. Other hard copies were 35klms away in another library. The printed document was presented in ten parts ring bound. There is no index tabs to divide up the chapters and no list of contents is included to indicate what was included in each chapter. Councillor Lenore Wyatt reported to a KUR-Alert member that people are getting exasperated with the staff at Kuranda Library because there is no help to be had with the EIS. The hard copy of the ‘have your say’ submission form supplied to the MSC Library in Kuranda did not include any information as to where the submitters should post, email or fax their hard copy of their completed submission. What are people going to do with their completed ‘have your say’ submission?? This is an important ‘have your say’ equity issue for people who do not have access to online copies. The online version of the draft EIS was in a PDF format that was not able to be saved and marked up or comments added to it. A large document such as the EIS draft is mostly useless if all that can be done is scroll back and forth through the document. Any notes have to be made by pen and paper.
SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS
*
*Submitters may add or change the solution provided below. Or if you agree with the solution that is proposed, then fill out your name/address details below and click submit.* 1. Multiple hard copies of the EIS Draft with tabs and indexes should be available in Kuranda, and the most affected area of Myola. 2. The PDF version online should have the ability to mark-up comments for ‘have your say’ submissions.
