Dear Editor,

Your recent articles on the proposed mega resort and satellite suburb ‘KUR-World’  near Kuranda had me stunned. No mention to which safety standard the dam, originally built illegally , has been remediated.

Would it stand up to a cyclone Yasi? No mention of the damage to the endangered Kuranda tree frog’s habitat. No mention of the hundreds of acres of rainforest slashed and burnt by the developer nor of the high level of local opposition to the project nor of the inadequate infrastructure to support an extra 4000 people in the next 5 years.

Imagine the congestion on the Kuranda Range Road.

So KUR-World is unlikely to happen. But how many taxpayer dollars will be wasted on evaluating this pipedream and how much more of the environment trashed before sense prevails and the hypnotic trance induced by the mention of jobs and millions of dollars is broken?
