I am looking for some information regarding a local road closure in Kuranda, FNQ.

  1. Please advise a copy of the new map with the roads removed, if available.
  2. Please advise the date the road closure is effective.
  3. Please advise the cost paid by the landowner for the 21.194 ha

2 Areas totalling 21.194 ha being the unnamed road abutting the southern boundary of Lot 22 on N157227, the unnamed road abutting the eastern boundary of Lot 22 on N157227, Lots 1 and 2 on RP703984 and Lot 20 on N157423, the unnamed road abutting the northern boundary of Lot 19 on N157452 and the unnamed road intersecting Lots 17 and 18 on N157227 and Lot 19 on N157452 (parish of Formartine, locality of Kuranda) and shown as proposed road closure on Drawing PR121778-10B. Further to your email below, please be advised that investigations are being undertaken with regard to the abovementioned applications.

As previously advised, unless you are the applicant, specific information in relation to any application cannot be provided.  The following general information relating to applications for permanent road closure is provided:

  • Application received and assessed to ensure it is properly made;
  • Land tenure investigation is undertaken to identify the land parcel, adjoining owners and any relevant stakeholders who may have in interest in the land (ie other government agencies and local government);
  • Advertising period – to provide notification to the general public and any relevant stakeholders who may have an interest in the proposed road closure area;
  • Native title assessment;
  • Valuation and inspection of the proposed road closure area;
  • Review of all documents, including any comments received from public and relevant stakeholders;
  • Recommendation made in relation to the application;
  • Decision made on application;
  • Written notice of the decision is forwarded to the applicant (successful or unsuccessful);
  • In the event the application is successful, offer requirements are to be fulfilled by applicant;
  • Upon satisfactory completion of offer requirements, road closed  and new Deed of Grant granted;
  • Interested parties notified of application outcome.

All future correspondence relative to this matter is to be referred to the Department at the address below or by email to Townsville.SLAMS@dnrm.qld.gov.au (please no larger than 4MB).  Any hard copy correspondence received will be electronically scanned and filed.  For this reason, it is recommended that any attached plans, sketches or maps be no larger than A3-sized.

Please quote reference number 2015/007092, 7095, 7096, 7097, 7099, 7100 and 7101 in any future correspondence.
