Council’s Authorised Officers have been instructed to remove all signs on local government road reserves or roadways. Signs that were attached to trees, power poles, guide posts, other road signs or any other infrastructure were removed immediately as they do not comply with the Mareeba Shire Council’s Local Laws. All other signs were photographed and checked for an approval prior to removal.
Signs located on State control roads and highways were removed by the Department of Main Roads and Transport.
Council has not removed any signs from private property however as they are visible from a public place (roadway or road reserve) they will also need to be removed as there are no current approvals in place under Council’s Local Laws.
The signs impounded by Mareeba Shire Council can be claimed at a cost of $65 for the first sign and $25 for subsequent signs.
If you wish to claim the signs removed by the Department of Main Roads and Transport you will need to contact them for further information.
