On Saturday 24th November 2018, Kuranda community gathered under Queen Maggie’s tree in the park to get the latest updates on the KUR-World draft EIS process, details of the development itself and how it will severely impinge on community values, water, infrastructure, roads, absurd helicopter traffic and the critical cassowary wildlife corridor that runs north-south through the freehold Myola Valley, the proposed development site.

The video right, will give you the latest information from the KUR-Alert Inc Working Group that has formed around this issue:

KUR-WORLD IN KURANDA?
TOO BIG. WRONG PLACE.

Image 1 right read Professor Bill Laurance (global biologist) transcripts regarding this issue.  Our community embraces the best science regarding the Myola Valley land, the proposed development site.

Image 2 right Our community has a strong history over generations, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous to protect cassowary habitat – the Wet Tropics Bioregion being its total worldwide distribution.

We know Mareeba Shire Council is unsympathetic to both the cassowary’s overall dire plight and the scientific reasons why the Myola Valley must never be “developed”.
Our community fought and won 10 years ago denying the 2004 Myola Plan implementation on strong grounds.

“Only 20-25% of former cassowary habitat remains and much of it is under pressure.”
