KUR-ALERT ORGANISES MASS RALLY AGAINST KUR-WORLD – THIS SUNDAY 10:30am KURANDA

KUR-Alert is a group of concerned residents, business owners and conservationists that are actively seizing the moment to stop the mega development of KUR-World in its tracks.

KUR-World is a project on steroids that is totally inappropriate for the sensitive rainforests in the Myola Valley near Kuranda. The development is planned to have 373 subdivided urban blocks at 600sqm, 18-hole golf course, 500 student villas and a shopping centre, with capacity for over 4,000 people.

All current local and state planning schemes for the Myola Valley have subject land as Rural. Current planning schemes amount to zero when a casino executive like Ken Lee, proprietor of Reever and Ocean Pty Ltd can simply overturn them.

This is not a local issue but a fundamental planning issue that has consequences for all areas across Queensland.

Additionally, how can such a monster project even be considered over a property that has the critically endangered Kuranda tree-frog and the Myola Palm.

We demand:

  • Repair damage in the seasonal creek and Owen creek impacting on the Kuranda tree frog breeding habitat, caused by land clearing and the partial failure of the illegal dam
  • Revegetation of up to 200ha of rainforest already cleared
  • No Material Change of Use for the historic Barnwell property

Join the march this Sunday 26th March starting near bottom pub on Coondoo Street Kuranda, 10:30am.

Guest speakers, welcome to country by Bulwai Traditional Owners followed by Willie Brim and friends on stage.
